One of the things I believe God would have us grow in as a church is to better recognize some of the ways He is at work in our midst. While I have many hopes for us as we seek to do this, three of them are primary. First, I pray that we would rejoice over His grace to us. One of our core values is “joyful worship”. Recognizing some of the ways God is working in our midst will help us to more joyfully worship Him with our lips and our lives through every season and circumstance. Secondly, I want us to be encouraged. I don’t know a person or a church body who is too encouraged. My prayer is that as we recognize some of God’s grace toward us as a church, we will be encouraged in Christ and in the worthy work He has sent us to. Third, I pray recognizing His handiwork would make us hungry for more and more of Him and His work in our midst. The truth is, God is always working in powerful and profound ways, both in the ordinary and extraordinary. Often, we don’t see it, recognize it, or acknowledge it. So, in an effort for us to recognize His gracious work more regularly, I’ll be sending out a monthly post highlighting a few ways He has been at work in our midst.
As you read these glimpses of grace every month, I would ask three things of you. First, let’s praise God and be encouraged together because of God’s work in our midst. Second, I want to encourage you to be on the lookout for God’s work in your life and share it with those around you. Third, I’d love to hear from you if you have a glimpse of God’s grace to share. Please email me at david@sentcharlotte.org.
Here are four glimpses of God’s grace from the month of June:
We finished up our sermon series through the book of Joshua. On June 6th, after spending 15 weeks walking through the book of Joshua, we wrapped up our sermon series in this book. God used our time together in Joshua in many powerful ways. We were shown and reminded of three primary things throughout our time in Joshua together. First, our God is always faithful to keep His promises. He did everything He would do for His people. Second, we saw that the peace, rest, and blessing that humanity is looking for is only found in the work of Christ. God never intended a plot of land in the middle east to be the final place of rest for His people. If we are to have true rest and peace now and for all eternity, the only place we will find it is in Christ. And third, we saw and were reminded that as we find peace, rest, and blessing in Christ, we are to share this good news with the world around us as we live sent.
We had a joint worship celebration with King’s Church. On June 13th, King’s Church and Sent Church came together for a unified worship gathering at King’s Church’s building in the Newell area of Charlotte. King’s Church is a new, gospel centered, like minded church plant in the area and we wanted to worship together with them and celebrate all that God is doing in and through our local churches. We had a God-glorifying time of worship and then enjoyed lunch and fellowship together after the worship gathering. It was a wonderful time to be united together with another local church plant in our city. Please continue to pray for King’s Church in the days ahead as they seek to make more disciples and plant more churches in Charlotte and beyond.
We hosted our second quarter church wide prayer gathering . On June 18th, pastor Josh led all who joined us in prayer together as a church. Those in attendance went humbly to our Father laying the praises and requests of the people of Sent Church before Him. It is an absolute joy and honor to get to join together in prayer to our God who sees, hears, listens, and responds to all our requests. He continues to faithfully answer our prayers as we cry out to Him.
We hosted our first Sent Men’s breakfast of the summer. On June 26th, many of the men of Sent Church gathered to enjoy a meal, fellowship, encouragement from God’s word, and prayer together. We were reminded of who we are in Christ as adopted sons of God. We will continue hosting these on the last Saturday of the month in July and August as well. So men of Sent Church, please mark your calendars and plan to be at the next one on July 31st. I hope to see you there.
I pray these glimpses of God’s grace would bring us to more joyfully worship our great God and be encouraged in Him and the work He has sent us to. What a mighty, gracious, and active God we serve!
