Sent Church Family,
Summer is coming to an end! The Keens are returning soon, schools are starting back up, and many of our weekly rhythms are going to be changing soon. In order to usher in this new season, the elders would like to invite you to a time of prayer and fasting together! Our aim is to dedicate ourselves to God for the next season. Together we will seek His face so that we can walk in the freedom of the gospel, listen for His wisdom to navigate our next chapter, and recognize our dependency on the power of the Spirit to do what we cannot do.
So we will:
- Initiate the prayer and fasting together on Saturday, August 20th at 6:30pm
- At the Blavatt’s home: 3811 Melshire Lane, Charlotte, NC 28269
- Spend the week in continued prayer and fasting (see prayer and fasting guide attached)
- Break our prayer and fasting together on August 28th (more details to follow)
How to Fast
Fasting is giving up something good and/or necessary for a time in order to declare with our whole self that God is better and more necessary. It is also useful to re-purpose the time, energy, and attention we normally give to that thing for prayer.
We are asking that everyone participate in this week-long fast while we pray together for the things listed above. Please use your discretion regarding what kind of fast you should engage.
You might consider:
- Fasting from all solid food (only drinking water and/or some juice)
- Fasting through one or two meals per day
- Fasting from meat
- Fasting from flavorful beverages (only drinking water)
- Fasting from entertainment.
- Fasting from internet and/or social media
Prayer Points
Please join your Sent brothers and sisters in praying within the following specific categories
during our week of prayer and fasting. Before the week begins, take some time to identify and
write down a few specific things to pray for in each category.
Personal Prayers:
● Of Repentance – What sins does the Lord want to eradicate from your life?
Helpful Questions:
Where do you have unforgiveness or bitterness in your life?
What are you doing or believing that is hindering your intimacy with Jesus?
What sin are you allowing to push you onto the sidelines of mission and joy?
What sins are you trying to defeat on your own and are currently losing?
What idols are showing up in your daily life?
● For Faith – In what areas of your life does God want to increase your trust in Him?
Helpful Questions:
Where in your life is God working?
Where does he have something for you that is not currently being realized?
What areas is he calling you to step out and “in faith” trust Him fully with?
Where do you lack faith in God?
What is hindering you from abiding with the Lord?
Where are you in most need for a breakthrough?
What does the Lord want to change in your life?
● For Purpose – What is the mission God has put you on?
Helpful Questions:
What does obeying scripture look like for you in the next season?
Who are the people the Lord has already sent you to?
What does the Lord want to do in the lives of the people you have been sent to?
How does the Lord want you to invest in the Kingdom of God?
What treasures do you need to let go of here so that you can lay up treasures in heaven?
● For Mountains – Please take time before our prayer and fasting week to identify the
God-sized needs in your life.
Helpful Questions:
Where are you most desperate for the Lord to move in your life?
What might it look like for God to answer your prayers?
Where do you need a breakthrough?
What areas have you not yet fully entrusted to the Lord?
What do you “not have” because you have “not asked?” (James 4:2)
Prayers for Sent:
● For the Fruit of the Spirit – That Jesus would pour out his Spirit on us to deliver us from
bondage to sin, unite us in love, and empower us to live in his likeness.
Pray for a season of revealing sin, and repentance of sin.
Pray for a greater awareness of the presence and power of God.
Pray we see the things that He is doing among us, and join him there.
Pray for his word to come alive in our church.
Pray for God’s blessing on the churches and Christians in our city.
Pray for the Spirit to have freedom in our church.
● For the Harvest – That God would adopt more people into his family and also into our
family at Sent.
Pray, by name, for the people you are asking the Lord to adopt.
Pray for the people who think they are Christians but are not actually following Jesus.
Pray for boldness as we step out and communicate the gospel.
Pray for wisdom and winsomeness in communicating the coming kingdom.
Pray for receptiveness for not-yet-believers.
Pray for the Lord to win the hearts and affections of our Sent Kids and Sent Students.
Pray for the Harvest to come.
● For the Future – That God would give us confidence, peace, wisdom, and direction for
the season ahead.
Pray for God to show us what he has prepared for us.
Pray for boldness anchored in who God is.
Pray for renewed energy for Kingdom work.
Pray for God to open doors and silence storms.
Pray for leaders to join and step up into the calling God has given them here at Sent.
Pray for God to grow our love for him.
Pray for God to go with us where he sends us.
